RE-TILING OF THE EXTENSION ROOF
The tiles on the Extension roof have been shaling and falling for the past couple of years on the north side, so the PCC decided on 16 July 2018 (Para 12 in the PCC minutes) to have the whole of that side of the roof replaced. Thankfully it is only the tiles on the north side of the church Extension roof (the road side) which need replacing as the rest of the roof and under the tiles appears sound.
With several thousand pounds to find, 2019 saw the congregation and the wider community of Hanwood respond generously and nearly £2,000 was raised in donations and from a plant sale. We have not been successful with grant funding so far but will keep trying. We are hoping to carry out the work before the winter of 2020.
A spin-off from this appeal is a Donations and Memories Book which records the names of those who have contributed to the funds, with many people adding comments, stories or memories. It may be worth saying here that if anyone has donated and hasn’t already had the opportunity to write in the Book, please let me know.
