HANWOOD VILLAGE HALL
Firstly I would like to introduce myself. My name is Roy Dunscombe and I have been recently elected as the chairman of the Village Hall committee now that Bill Longmore has decided to stand down and has handed over the baton to me. I am a fairly new resident of the village having moved to Orchard Lane in 2006 but I have lived in the local parish for 24 years and I am very pleased to lead the village hall committee.
It will be a hard job to match Bill’s achievements as he has been such a very influential driving force behind not just the Village Hall but also the revival of the bowling club and the improvement of the green and stands as well as swelling the membership by encouraging the younger players to become involved. The Riverside Park that Bill envisioned was welcomed by the community but we also need to acknowledge that the maintenance of this has recently somewhat been neglected. You will have noticed if you visit now that this is being addressed and thanks to the efforts of Chris Vickers is rapidly being transformed. There is much still to do but I hope you will agree that it is a step in the right direction.
The new dressing rooms for the Hanwood Football club (another of Bill’s initiatives) will be already in position by the time this page is published and it is hoped to have these fully commissioned before the start of the next season.
The village hall itself has become very dated and needs a serious facelift and to this end the committee are in the process of applying for a lottery grant to fund an extension and complete refurbishment of the inside of the hall. You will all shortly be receiving a questionnaire regarding the facilities you would like to see in the hall and the activities you would particularly like to see or use within the hall. Our initial ideas are to extend the hall to provide a larger function area which could be sub divided to create separate activity areas if required.
Other areas of improvement being considered are:
We particularly want to hear from as many people in the community as possible so that we may consider and hopefully include as many of the facilities and activities that you would like to see within the hall.
The committee are striving to completely refurbish the village hall so that it can be an asset we can all enjoy.
The questionnaire is the first step of our grant application. Please do your best to respond to it as this is a very important and influential determinant in the success of the grant application as it should reflect the needs and aspirations of the Hanwood community.
You can download a copy of the questionnaire here.
